- 2Give the focus: one technical or mental focus (e.g. 'Legs in the water', 'Quiet hands').
- 3Say what you'll call: e.g. 'I'll call the rate; listen for the settle at 2 min.'
- 4Ask for questions: 'Any questions?' so everyone is clear.
- 5Confirm and go: 'Ready? Paddle to the start.'
