- Duration
- 8–12 min
- Equipment
- Cox box, eight
📋Instructions
- 1Set a base rate: start at 18–20 and establish rhythm and length.
- 2Call the step: e.g. 'In two, we're going to 24 … one, two, 24.' Give a clear target.
- 3Hold the rate: hold for 30–60 seconds; call 'lengthen' or 'send' if they shorten up.
- 4Build again: next step (e.g. 28, then 32) with the same process.
- 5Come back down: step the rate back down (e.g. 28, 24, 20) so they learn to control the slide at higher rates.
💡Tips
- ✓Keep calls short and decisive; avoid long speeches in the middle of a piece.
- ✓Use the cox box rate display to confirm you're on target, but also listen to the rhythm.
