- Equipment
- Cox box, eight, clear stretch of water
πInstructions
- 1Pick a landmark: choose a point on the far shore or horizon and aim the bows at it.
- 2Look ahead: keep your eyes on the landmark, not the water immediately in front.
- 3Small touches: use short, light touches on the rudder; avoid sawing or big swings.
- 4Correct early: if you drift off line, correct with one small movement then hold.
- 5Check behind: glance over your shoulder occasionally to confirm you're not drifting into another lane or hazard.
π‘Tips
- βIn a crosswind, you may need to hold a constant angle; practise in different conditions.
- βCall 'set' or 'balance' if the crew's handle heights or timing affect your line.
