Duration

Equipment
Cox box, eight, clear stretch of water

πŸ“‹Instructions

  1. 1Pick a landmark: choose a point on the far shore or horizon and aim the bows at it.
  2. 2Look ahead: keep your eyes on the landmark, not the water immediately in front.
  3. 3Small touches: use short, light touches on the rudder; avoid sawing or big swings.
  4. 4Correct early: if you drift off line, correct with one small movement then hold.
  5. 5Check behind: glance over your shoulder occasionally to confirm you're not drifting into another lane or hazard.

πŸ’‘Tips

  • βœ“In a crosswind, you may need to hold a constant angle; practise in different conditions.
  • βœ“Call 'set' or 'balance' if the crew's handle heights or timing affect your line.
